Coastal Island Fishing Adventures
The freshwater fishing surrounding Campbell River on Vancouver Island is a fishing paradise of pristine rivers & lakes teeming with Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, Cutthroat Trout, Steelhead and all five species of salmon – Chinook (Kings), Coho (Silvers), Pinks, Chum and Sockeye salmon.

Join us for some on-island adventures exploring these tremendous waters for wild fish!
Steelhead – We have Wild Steelhead entering our waters 12 months of the year, this being said we have many diverse fisheries to attempt our luck at finding and hooking one of the prize fish! There are many methods of fishing for these fish with conventional and fly gear. Our summer fish are so aggressive that they may even come to a dry-fly! Winter months bring on average larger Steelhead to our waters than our summer fish and success comes easier with drift fishing (conventional gear) during these colder months.

Salmon – Salmon season starts in June with the arrival of Sockeye in some of our rivers. The occasional fish are intercepted while fishing for Trout in some of our rivers. These fish are a great challenge to hook in fresh water on Vancouver Island but when hooked are a close match to the mighty Steelhead in fighting skills. The pink Salmon arriving along the shoreline in mid July is when things start to get active. The pinks come in large numbers, are very aggressive and can be hooked along the ocean beaches fly fishing & gear fishing and are a great sport in the rivers as well when fresh from the sea. The other fish we love to target as the season progresses is the Coho (silvers) that may be found as early as mid July in some of our mountain streams. Well known for their acrobatic fighting abilities, these are a highly desirable sport fish amongst west coast anglers. The Chum (Dog Salmon) is one of the most under-rated sport-fish we have. Arriving into fresh water on the island through late Oct – Nov, they have taken many fishermen’s gear with no return. They can be highly aggressive to both fly & conventional gear as well.

Trout – Our most unique of all trout is our native Sea-Run Cutthroat. These fish can be found cruising our ocean beaches and are a great fish to seek out along kelp beds with a fly! They migrate up the rivers following the salmon runs in the fall where they reside and spawn over winter months. You will often find them while fishing for winter steelhead which is always a treat… Our cutthroat can reach up to 5lbs. Within an hours drive of Campbell River there are more than a hundred lakes teeming with Trout. These fisheries peak in spring months (late April – Late June) offering rainbows, Dollies, and Cutthroat trout till you drop! Bring the light tackle and you’re in for fast action great for any angler. Let us row you around while you cast at rising fish taking dry flies or troll and let the fish hook themselves, either way this is a great fishery! We also have some great trout fishing in mountain streams in the spring and early summer. Let us take you to remote areas where you can hike through Old growth forests where you’ll find pristine rivers where trout are rarely fished for and awaiting your angling skills.
